PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
